You Gotta Get Your Feet Wet!

I’d like to share with you a Classy Gospel Lyric I’ve written about putting faith into action, showing that you really believe what you say you do.  My lyric is based on the Old Testament story of Joshua who became the leader of the tribes of Israel after the patriarch Moses died.  Joshua instructs the priests who are carrying the Arc of the Covenant that they must actually step into the water of the Jordan River before the Lord will pull it back and give them and the Israelite tribes behind them dry passage into the Promised Land.  Get ready to tap your feet and clap your hands to the driving beat of YOU GOTTA GET YOUR FEET WET!

Verse 1:
There’s a story in the Good Book
I want to share
With you people who are frightened
When life asks you to dare.
Like the priests at Jordan River
Who saw Jericho ahead.
You can claim the vict’ry promised
In what Joshua said . . .

Chorus:
YOU GOTTA GET YOUR FEET WET!
TAKE THAT STEP OF FAITH!
ONLY WHEN YOU TOUCH THE WATER
WILL GOD PULL THE FLOOD AWAY.
WITH HIS COVENANT BEFORE YOU
YOU’LL BE WALKING ON DRY GROUND.
BUT FIRST YOU GOTTA GET YOUR FEET WET
. . . RIGHT NOW.

Verse 2:
Like the Hebrews, you’ve been wand’ring
So many years;
But the time has come, God’s children,
To be free from your fears.
‘Though that first step is the hardest
As you stand upon the brink,
It’s believing that sustains you
So your feet will never sink.

Bridge:
SEE THE WATER!
STEP ON IN!
TRUST THE FATHER
AS YOUR WALK BY FAITH BEGINS.

Repeat chorus:
YOU GOTTA GET YOUR FEET WET!
TAKE THAT STEP OF FAITH!
ONLY WHEN YOU TOUCH THE WATER
WILL GOD PULL THE FLOOD AWAY.
WITH HIS COVENANT BEFORE YOU
YOU’LL BE WALKING ON DRY GROUND.
BUT FIRST YOU GOTTA GET YOUR FEET WET
. . . RIGHT NOW!

You know when the writers group meets again I’m going to ask you to sing the songs you’ve shared so I can hear your melodies to see if they’re similar to the ones I heard in my head! 🙂
