Have you ever wondered why some people seem to smile more? Laugh more? Seem happier? I remember a first cousin of my mother named Allie who always seemed to have a giggle ready to overflow from the smile on her face. Whenever I was in her company, no matter the trite conversation that was going on, she always seemed the happiest person in the room if you could judge by her words interspersed with light laughter.
My impression is that some persons seem more naturally inclined to have a positive attitude than others. Of course, we are aware that health and life circumstances are big determinants of how happy we feel.
However, especially in these times of unnatural circumstances for us all because of the Corona virus pandemic, we need to practice contentment and full-fledged happiness to strengthen ourselves physically and mentally. And when you go out of your way to do something for someone else, you not only make that person happy, but you will feel a sense of well-being yourself.
“Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be,” is attributed to our sixteenth President Abraham Lincoln. So how about saying to yourself, “I am fine. Things are different but I can adapt. Yes, I am fine.”
Let’s make up our minds that even in this pandemic, we can treasure life’s simple pleasures, be happy in the moment and pass happiness along. The Corona virus is contagious. But happiness is contagious, too.
