Finding Our Way Out of Darkness

We all find ourselves suddenly thrust into darkness at some point: the home electricity goes out, our road trip is taking longer than anticipated, or more seriously, our close friend or family member has been snatched by death.

A physical source of light can brighten the darkness in many instances. However, when a shroud covers our heart—the essence of who we are—reaching out beyond ourselves for help is difficult. But moving toward healing may require just that tiniest step on our part when our “mind over matter” starts the journey to creating an inner peace.

Think of someone or some place where you have found this inner peace in the past. Reflect on how that person or place made you feel. You are not without hope. You are not in a hopeless situation.

You may have heard the saying, “It’s always darkest before the dawn.” Or there’s another expression of a similar idea which is “Joy comes in the morning.” This last quote is from The Holy Bible, in the 30th chapter of the book of Psalms in verse 5. What if you gave up now and missed the brightness of the sunshine that is destined to shine upon you?
