Every book in the Holy Bible, in both the Old and New Testaments, speaks of the Holy Spirit. And yet, many do not understand the Holy Spirit’s personhood and work, even those who identify themselves with a particular church or denomination.
There are so many verses of Scripture on this subject, it is difficult for me to choose which to use in this expository writing. I am choosing to emphasize: (1) that the Holy Spirit acts as an Advocate, Helper, and Comforter giving you new life and new direction. See John 16:7-8. And (2) that the Holy Spirit indwells, or in other words, comes to live in you. See Romans 8:9.
The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. I can’t explain the Trinity. No one can. But suffice it to say that God is (1) one Person who has shown and continues to show Himself as Creator and Loving Parent, (2) Savior who came as the long-awaited Messiah and died as a Sacrificial Lamb, and (3) Spirit who makes it possible for you to share the Gospel or Good News of salvation and to minister to the needs of others.
