The Holy Spirit troubles our hearts that we are missing something—like a puzzle piece needed to make the picture complete. And the Holy Spirit turns us around, so we are facing and going in a new direction. Whereas before we were following our own physical desires, through this new awareness we are brought to repentance or godly sorrow so: (1) we think differently, (2) we act out of brotherly/sisterly love and not out of self-centeredness, and (3) we live with expectation.
This expectation is encapsulated in one of the most beloved verses in the Bible for Christians: John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” As we all know our days on this earth are numbered. But beyond this life we can have a life for all eternity.
As I state in each of my four blog posts on the Holy Spirit, I realize that my blog readers come from diverse backgrounds and religious or non-religious persuasions. I am not saying you are wrong in what you believe. I’m just expressing what I believe as I follow a biblical instruction which says, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” See 1 Peter 3:15-17.
