The shutting down earlier this year of physical schools and preschools due to the Coronavirus left many parents, grandparents and others to assume full-time roles as facilitators for learning. And now as the summer looms large with its own set of concerns as to how to fill the time of the young ones, may I introduce you to the second volume of my NONNY DAY SERIES of children’s book: SWEET PICKLES AMONG THE MARIGOLDS!
I wrote this series of books based on the real life experiences I had with one of my grandsons—now a teen—when he was a child dropped off at my house while his mother and father were working. I never viewed these days as “babysitting.” It was childcare with a dual purpose. And that purpose was making sure he felt worthy of love and filling our days with activities to stimulate both his brain and body development.
I soon found myself writing in rhyme about the fun and learning of our “Nonny Days.” Music was also a primary activity as I was a children’s choir director for many years, so from time to time I created little songs to go along with the subject matter of my rhymes.
My first children’s book was self-published in the fall of 2019. Now in 2020, I am pleased to announce that my second in the series, SWEET PICKLES AMONG THE MARIGOLDS, A Rhyme of Garden Fun, has just been released on Amazon!
It is waiting for your enjoyment as you use it as an activity-based early reader for ages 5 to 8. But it is also meant to be used with children younger than five as language learning and development is enhanced by reading to the child, particularly when there are bold, beautiful illustrations that go along with the story.
