Spring 2019 was a wonderfully fulfilling time for me. I had been working several months on giving music and mini-drama to a formerly tucked-away lyric which told of the birth and life of Jesus in a way understandable to children. I enlisted the music director at my church as my proof-reader and advisor as I made many revisions to my first lyric page and score. He proved to be quite a task master! But that is what I needed!
Whether you read music or not, you probably know that a song is written with a certain time signature giving it its rhythm or pattern of beats. As the year 2020 has found its distinctiveness in the rapid spread of COVID-19 around the globe, I now realize how fortunate I was to have followed my instincts to finish this song and ultimately was privileged to have it performed by my church choir during 2019. As God already knew what 2020 would bring, I believe my song was a musical score written not only in 4/4 and 6/8 but it was written in God’s time.
Maybe as you are beginning to think about the Christmas season this year, you might enjoy a video of my composition “Sing Hallelujah, Give Him Your Heart.” – (184) Sing Hallelujah, Give Him Your Heart by Connie Carlisle Polley | FCBC Choir – YouTube

Sing Hallelujah, Give Him Your Heart
Verse 1:
Tiptoe to His cradle,
See the Holy Baby sleep,
While angels raise a great amen
And shepherds watch their sheep.
“Please read that story one more time,”
I hear the children say,
So we open up God’s Word to find
The joy of Christmas day.
1st Chorus:
Sing Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! Jesus is born.
Verse 2:
“Did they bring Him presents?”
Says a tiny voice to me,
This child so full of wondr’ing eyes
Who tugs upon my sleeve.
“Yes, wise men brought Him precious gifts,”
I say with a smile.
“But there’s something special you can give:
It’s the heart of a child.”
2nd Chorus:
Sing Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! Give Him your heart.
Verse 3:
“Where’s the Baby Jesus?”
The children want to know
As I turn through God’s Story Book
To Calv’ry long ago:
A cross, a hill, a child grown up
Who soon would have to die.
But He fled the tomb and He still lives!
So, children, don’t you cry!
3rd Chorus:
Sing Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! He is alive!
Jesus is alive! Alive!
