Although the term R&R has varying interpretations in different situations, a basic meaning is rest and recreation. Now, we all know what “rest” means. But wait a minute: how did you pronounce “recreation” in your head as you were reading? Did you say [RECK ree A shun]? Or did you say [REE kree A shun]? Rest and recreation pronounced [REE kree A shun] means a regeneration. A new beginning on a specific day of the week as a necessity for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being is what today’s blog post is about.
Our present snippet series is about “Lighthouse Lamps.” These are directives or instructions for our lives so we may have the strength we need on a daily basis and ultimately achieve our long-range goals. Today’s snippet includes the fourth of God’s Ten Commandments. It concerns designating a weekly day of rest. Moreover, it is to be a holy or sacred day, and a time of Godly worship with other believers. And in the sense of recreation [REE kree A shun], it is to be a time of renewal of our spirits.
If you worship on Saturday, you are resting and recreating on the seventh day of the week, the Jewish Shabbat or Sabbath. If you worship on Sunday, you are resting and recreating on what early Christians called the Lord’s Day as a recognition and celebration of the resurrection from the dead of Jesus Christ, God in the flesh. If your holiest day of the week is Friday, you are following the Muslim tradition of coming together for prayers and worship on Juma.
The first four of the Ten Commandments found in the book of Exodus in the Bible specify what our relationship with God is supposed to be like. This fourth directive is written below in English, French, Spanish, and German. Audio is also available at the Google Translate app. Choose how you want it to speak to your heart and impact your life.
