In the twentieth century, the practice of cryonics (preserving dead bodies for a future ‘resurrection’) came into being. Though dismissed by many as a pseudo-science, others have clung to its hope by having their own or loved one’s body go through the preservation procedure. According to my Google search, there are at least four cryonic facilities in the world.
I am not relying on cryonics to give me a chance to be brought back to life at some future date. Neither am I relying on the hope that medicine and technology will have advanced to the degree that whatever I died from can be fixed, and that I will be a strong, healthy human being in my new brought-back-to life body.
What I am relying on are the teachings of my religious faith to guide me in this life and give me an eternal existence with my God after I die. This is the revelation I have. And as a person of faith and hope, I believe we all have a revelation of God. Mine may be different than yours.
If you call your god Allah, Yahweh, Bhagavan, the Great Spirit, Mother Nature, God, or another name, I believe this Divine Essence has put a godly spark in you which should manifest itself in justice and equality for every man, woman, youth, boy and girl in our world. And we all should practice dignity toward and respect for one another.
As a Christian, in worship and in prayer, I usually call the supreme being Lord or God. Through the Holy Bible I interpret Him as a a Triune (three in one) Being who first manifested itself as a Creative Spirit hovering over the deep, dark chasm of the earth. Genesis chapter 1, verses 1-2 (King James Version) says, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”
Its second division was as a human being, a man named Jesus-Christ. This second division was born as a baby to a Jewish teen-age Mary who had been impregnated by the Creative Hovering Spirit. Matthew chapter 1, verse 18 (New International Version) says, “This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about. His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.”
Its third part is a Holy Ghost or a Holy Spirit who comes to us as a helper and guide for our present lives. Jesus Christ as quoted in John chapter 14, verses 25-26 (New International Version) says, “All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
I realize some of my readers believe in many gods. However, might we be able to agree that there is one god greater, more powerful, and in existence from the beginning of time? I hope that by my writing today you might be inclined to pray to your biggest god or your only God—whom I believe is the same as mine—and ask for an expanded revelation.
Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, Native American, or even Agnostic or Atheist, or of another belief—would you read this prayer below? And, if your heart is so touched, would you pray it aloud?
Holy God, Creator of the vast universe,
I ask you to take a moment of Your infinite time
To listen to my heart-felt prayer right now.
I want a greater revelation of Who You are,
And I ask now that You cleanse and refresh me
So I might be open to this greater revelation.
I ask that the darkest ugliest spots of my life
Be rubbed out by Your Holy Finger,
Turn my life around so I am on a straight path to you.
Give me companions who know You,
So they along with a Holy Spirit
May show me how to have
A better life while I am alive on this earth
And an eternal life with You and all who believe when I die.
Amen.
